We're always looking for a way to stay younger and feel more youthful. But we won't find
the answer in a cream or pill. The real key to looking and feeling great is to be proactive
about our health. Hi, I'm Dr. Roshini Raj and I'm teaming up with UnitedHealthcare to
encourage everyone to schedule an annual exam and get the recommended health screenings
based on your age and gender. While some may fear or even dread having their annual exam
and appropriate screenings, I tell all my patients that early detection is the best
protection. When diseases are identified early, treatments and solutions are more manageable
and successful but this is only possible with a proactive approach to your health care.
There are many online resources to assist in managing your health and some provide customized
screening guidelines. For instance, UnitedHealthcare allows individuals to enter their age and
gender to obtain a full list of recommended screenings and immunizations. Everyone knows
our habits can have an impact on our health. That's one of the reasons it's important to
schedule annual checkups and ensure that important health indicators like your blood pressure,
body mass index, cholesterol, and glucose levels are within the recommended ranges.
If not, you may be at risk for larger health complications in the future. Additionally,
as we age, our health and screening needs change. It's important to regularly visit
your doctor and discuss your evolving health. For instance, women should have a mammogram
every one to two years beginning at age 40. However, depending on family history and individual
health risks, you doctor may recommend beginning this screening this earlier. And while staying
on top of recommended screenings and health tests is an important step in living a long
and healthy life, you should always consult with your doctor. Every individual is different
and requires a customized health care plan to best suit their needs and personal history.
