The waves, the sand and the sun,
Brazil’s beaches,
Brazil’s post card.
With the arrival of the World Cup and the Olympic Games,
with the strengthening of the currency and the economy,
with all the investment designated to the the hotel and tourism industry in Brazil,
why not also making the services part of Brazil’s post card?
It is very right to protect the animals and the nature,
but the investment in the human being, the Brazilian, is still very little.
Now it is time to match the skills of the Brazilian working force to our natural resources.
Brazil has got all the elements to stand out,
to establish the services provided as its post card too.
All we need is the investment,
someone with the good will and knowledge and also the right personality
to finally make Brazil the present’s country and not the country of the future.
When I look at the Brazilian scenario and look for an icon in the hotel industry
I find an empty icon,
and that’s what we will do, we want to come to Brazil and train,
instruct,
share the knowledge
and consequently put a name on this icon that is still empty in Brazil.
Now I will tell you a real story that shows you how and why
hotels are a stage for incredible events.
A couple of years ago when I managed a 5 stars hotel in Bond Street in London,
I received a phone call from the owner,
He was worried about the arrival of Prince of Russia Dmitry Romanov to our hotel.
I warned the owner: We will impress the Prince.
So I made a phone call
to Buckingham Palace where I have an acquaintance
who always gives me tips about royalties,
their preferences and things they don’t like.
Out of all points he told me, I focused in one:
Prince’s favourite song, Piano Concerto No.10 from Tchaikovsky.
I have decided when entering the hotel room with Prince and Princess
the song would be playing.
But I wanted the song to be at the very first seconds, that was the impact I wanted.
How to do it? We bought the CD.
Simple...
Prince’s arrival was due at 14:00 at the hotel’s door.
We left the CD paused in the room,
with one of my staff awaiting,
awaiting for the call from reception
telling him he could release pause and leave the room
so I could enter with the Prince.
We timed how long it would take
to open the car doors,
To reach the elevators door,
to walk from the elevators through the corridor until reaching the room.
We timed every second thoroughly
so when entering the room, the song would be starting.
We didn’t fail.
All happened, the Prince arrived,
we walked to the room
and when I looked at the CD player
I saw the 5th second of the track playing.
The one thing I very happily recall,
apart from the team work was the Prince holding my shoulder,
looking at me and asking:
How did you know?
That is magic in hotel business.
