>> Dee Freeman: My name is Dee Freeman. I’m the Secretary of the Department of Environment
and Natural Resources. I would encourage people to dig deep into their heart, think about
the effects of the economy, think of the need, think of the people that are involved, particularly
now as we have seen layoffs of state employees. Some of the people that will benefit from
our contributions this year may very well be the people that we’ve worked with just
recently that no longer have a job, and how important it is to them and, of course, to
those who are less fortunate. I think of the example over the years as I have worked with
people who have not been able to pay their bills. I would often times refer people to
United Way agencies to help them pay their water bill or their power bill, a gas bill
because they simply didn’t have the money to pay it.
