>>Dounia: SETs are part of the engineering productivity organization, which main goal
is to enhance productivity at Google.
>>Anshul: The hierarchy at Google is very flat. So, you're trusted to make conscientious
decisions about your product right from the start.
>>Raja: My current team is a mixture of software developers who build the system and there
is a group of test engineers who work with them to build a testing infrastructure.
>>Obianuju: I write code and I do a lot of automation to test Google's software. I work
very closely with the software engineers.
>>Raja: There are a lot of senior people who have a lot of years of experience. We get
to work with them, we get to see how they work, and we kinda learn from their work.
It's a big learning experience. Every day here is a nice learning experience.
>>Dounia: The main challenges that you will be facing as an SET at Google are dealing
with the scale of our product.
>>Anshul: Sometimes you build something quickly and you want your users to get feedback on
it, so you launch it for a small percentage of users. You got to realize that a small
percentage of users probably means millions of people who are using it.
>>Raja: As SETs, we essentially have access to the exact same infrastructure that the
software engineers have and this is the exact same infrastructure that powers google.com.
>>Dounia: Whatever needs you may have for your project, whether it's mobile devices
or actual machines, so you won't be limited by hardware, that's for sure.
>>Raja: So, around the time I had just started at Google, and I was walking along the corridor
and suddenly I see this robot contraption with a laptop and a camera coming towards
me. It turns out that it was founders who were very interested in robotics and who were
building these robots with a laptop and a camera and just playing around with it.
>>Obianuju: You have 20% of your time to work on some other project. Recently, I got involved
with Google Africa and got to travel twice this year actually to Nigeria, to participate
in Google events that help bring content online and develop a user community in Nigeria. So,
that's something I'm really excited about and I'm really proud about.
>>Anshul: I go and I talk to my friends. Everybody wants to talk about the Google products and
they all tell me, "Ah, this is so great. Can you fix this?" or, "This is so great. How
did you guys do that?" And everybody just wants to know what I'm working on at Google
right now.
