...The subtitles were big and silly, so I was surprised .
In America,
if you can't hear the sound,
you can push a button on the remote to turn on subtitles.
However, because Japan's subtitles are amusing
and always visible
at first I didn't know whether
they were for people who couldn't hear or not .
Next, is how when showing a video clip,
you can see a video
of the show's hosts' faces in the corner of the screen .
In Japan, that sort of video is very common,
but I've never seen them in America.
The comedy variety shows that have these subtitles and videos
are very interesting.
I think that these variety shows are the biggest difference between American and Japanese TV.
In America, there aren't very many shows like that.
For the most part, American TV shows are more serious.
Apart from the differences in broadcasting methods,
there are also differences in the shows.
Since Japan is anime country,
before I came to Japan I thought that anime was always on TV.
But usually I just see variety shows and news.
Anime is also different from that in America.
Japanese anime is usual serialized, but American
cartoons are usually comedies with one story
per episode.
Besides animated shows,
American dramas are
tend to be serialized like Japan's.
However,
in America,
there are only American dramas and none from
other countries.
In Japan, on the other hand, Korean dramas are very popular
so I was a bit surprised.
While I like the more serious TV shows of America,
on Japanese TV, I like the
anime that continues every week
and foreign dramas.
American cartoons are also funny but,
I prefer the Japanese continuing anime
with its more complicated stories.
While studying abroad,
I really noticed these differences.
Because these differences and especailly the variety shows
were so interesting,
I took a video of them with my camera
to show my friends in America .
I'm looking forward to seeing their reactions.
Isn't Japanese television interesting?
