There was an old village quite far from the court
In which lived a young sorceress, precociously wise.
She knew how to cure any sickness or spell,
Turn one's luck around, and failure keep away.
Once a prince came to thorp she lived in
He found the young sorceress among the peasants.
Betrayed and expelled, he is deprived of the crown.
He asks for some means to restore to the throne.
"You don't even know what you're asking for, lad!"
She said and sent him back from where he had come.
"My foes must be punished so give me the drink!
I'll spare no effort to get luck and strenghth"
She answered "So be it, you alone are to blame,
I'll give you the elixir after three days"
A day goes by day, the prince lives in the thorp,
But potion is boiling, their parting is near.
The potion is ready, the duty calls on,
And prince takes with thanks a small vessel from girl.
He looks at her with sorrow into his mind.
And listen how to carry out powerful charm.
"You will do your best if your causes are good
But you mustn't show it to anyone then,
Reveal the secret - forget of the joy!"
And as she said it, prince set off for his way.
So then days and weeks passed as fast as a flow,
But suddenly great trouble came to the thorp.
The rogues came to them, dared to enter the gate,
The order was given to look for the maid.
Their ataman is sly, she's anxious to ask,
How to get the Luck potion in the 3 days,
But the answer she got was just a firm no.
And sorceress' house is searched around though.
They rushed in her house, but what a failure,
They can't find the drink, there's nothing to steal.
In fury and anger the order was made,
To fire the thorp and to pillage for sure.
So the bandits were left with not a sign of the drink.
Committed the robbery, galloped away.
The next day at dawn our young man has come,
He brought for the sorceress a present - the crown.
The king has approached to sorceress' house,
But what did he see? Just in front of his eyes
There lay a thin body on dark humid mud,
Around it in haze only ruins and smudge.
The sorceress sighed, tried to open her eyes,
A tear rolled down her pale cheek for last time.
And then she said weakly: "Don't dare to forget,
The happiness cannot be gained by luck."
