welcome to the David Pakman show very very exciting week this week for the
show
really great to have everybody with us a lot more information
but so much feedback to our big announcement that happened last week we
teased a little bit on Thursday's show and talked extensively
about new David Pakman show stuff on the bonus show from Thursday
you've got to get that bonus show: a lot going on a little bit more coming up
about it later
we have seen going into the weekend these headlines for example
al Qaeda planning a major terrorist attack
the target was not specified we didn't really hear too much about it but we had
wolf blitzer going at it on CNN saying
this threat is coming very close to the anniversary of 9/11
and also the Islamic holy period a Ramadan complete speculation
we're still over a month away from 9-11 there's only twelve months to the year
how significant is that speculation how useful is the speculation about the time
a proximity to 9/11
I don't really know however larry conley wrote to me and he said
it's interesting david because it does come somewhat close in terms of time
proximity to 9/11 that we're hearing these warnings about an arcade attack
but it's also coming very very close to the house of representatives
voting to got part over the NSA program is that
a coincidence I don't want to get into a very conspiratorial mindset here but I
think
it's very fair and reasonable
to question whether security
and perceived lack of security or threats
may be used to get people to agree to
to to allow things are to go into certain countries I don't know if iraq
rings a bell after 9/11
the idea that the proximity to a
an important vote related to intelligence might be taken into
consideration when thinking about you know the government does know about
threats all the time
sometimes we hear about them sometimes we don't
I think it's a perfectly fair question the other thing is this and this is
really the the broader
thing is it even
actionable in other words it's being suggested that
people should be aware love this potential threat as a potential threat
from al Qaeda
what do people do differently if in other words if you know
that this this time it's serious this time the government said
al Qaeda is planning a major terrorist attack we don't have any other
information about where what kind of attack or anything like that
is that actionable intelligence not from the point of view of the government
presumably
law enforcement and and surveillance and
tech counter-terrorism authorities they have stuff they can do with that
I would hope anyway I hope that they're not just fishing for for help from the
public by releasing this information
but look in the average person do you do you do anything differently when you
hear about al Qaeda planning
a major terrorist attack I
does anyone get mad if they're ends up not being an attack
no not really you're glad there wasn't an attack
so really the question is what's the downside from the government to using
these threats of attack
for their benefit whenever it make sense
no specific information that that's what's being done here
but we know that 9/11 was used to go into Iraq when it had nothing to do with
it so we know that it does happen
I don't know what in your mind did this is this is really the key question to
the audience in your mind
what is the point to the average citizen
%uh being informed %uh al Qaeda planning
a major terrorist attack in his is it worthwhile
in any way to have that information
