Hi! I am Joe Palanzo from the World Wide Kenpo Karate Association in conjunction with Expert
Village. This self-defense technique is called alternating maces. Maces are fists; you alternate
between one and the other. This is a defense against the push where your opponent is actually
falling quite close to you. You got to go horizontally this way to redirect his arms
and then down, so you are actually making a looping, kind of a dipping motion this way
to check his arms, and it can happen, usually these things happen without your intention.
Now what can happen here is rest of his body can run into me and hit me with his head,
so I need stop the upper motion of his body with a fist to the solar plexus. You do not
want to hit low; you want to hit right, right at the breast bone. So the first two moves
are one, two and I used a forward bow here really to brace myself, a forward stance,
where your back leg is braced and your weight distribution is 60:40; it gives you a lot
of support. It is the strongest brace position of the body. This as his head goes back I
am going to change back into a neutral position, checking with his hand, take a back and I
will go back, just hitting with a back of the hand. You can actually accentuate the
big knuckle by making a position or hand like this so that actually brings this knuckle
up. So you do not break the blood vessels in your hand and this helps to really hit
accurately into the temple bone about 40 lbs. will break that. So it looks kind of harmless
but it is very effective. So again we have the push, the stoppage, and the back fist.
