I'm Ryan Parker with Parker Home Renovations and today I'm going to teach you how to hire
a mason. If you need any kind of brickwork around the house done, or rock work or anything
like that, you may need to hire a mason. The first thing you want to do is go into the
phone book and you want to pull out a list of names for masons in your area. Now what
you want to do, is you want to make a list maybe, four or five names of different masons
around your area and you want to call each one, and ask them things like: are they insured,
are they licensed, what type of work they do. Try to find out, get a feel for their
professionalism. And then you want to ask them for references. You want to contact all
of these references, and ask the references what kind of work that mason did. Ask the
references if it was possible if you could take a look at the work that he did at their
site. Once you narrow the list done to one or two names, you want to get the mason to
come out and look at your job, and give you a written estimate. Once you choose one of
the estimates, then you'll ask the mason to fill out a contract for you, stating, the
price of the project, the scope of work and the time frame he's going to get it done in.
