Everyday people walk into your building tracking in everything from the outside. The fact is
as much as 70 to 80% of the dust, grime, and dirt in a building are brought in on people’s
feet. This can permanently damage floors, greatly increase the risk of slip and fall
accidents, and contribute to poor indoor air quality. The Andersen Company has developed
a three- mat entryway system to effectively prevent dirt and moisture from being tracked
in the buildings. The most important mat of the three-mat system is the inside scraper/wiper.
Andersen Waterhog scraper/wiper mats are made of extra tough fabrics designed for years
of effective performance. They channel and retain dirt in the recessed grooves while
capturing and holding moisture. Raised borders keep the dirt and moisture on the mat. These
recessed grooves are located between permanently rubber-reinforced ribs creating a bi-level
construction that will not crush flat for the life of the mat. This makes Waterhog scraper/wiper
mats much more efficient at stopping dirt and moisture than wiper mats with a flat construction.
Wiper mats have flat carpet surfaces that are not reinforced and do not have the bi-level
characteristic. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the rubber-reinforced bi-level Waterhog
scraper/wiper mats over traditional flat wiper mats, we have placed the two side by side.
We are now pouring equal amounts of sand over each one. You can already see a difference
in the way the sand settles in the grooves of the Waterhog scraper/wiper mat in comparison
to the flat wiper mat. Next, we pour an equal amount of water over each mat. Again, there
is a noticeable difference seen in the way the water puddles up on the surface of the
wiper mat as opposed to the way it is held in the recessed grooves below the traffic
surface of the Waterhog scraper/wiper mat. Then we have an equal number of people walk
across each mat. You can now see a clear difference in the amount of sand and water picked up
on the shoes of the people walking across the Waterhog scraper/wiper mat as opposed
to the flat wiper mat. The reinforced ribs of the Waterhog scraper/wiper mat allow the
sand and water to collect in the recessed grooves in comparison to the flat wiper mat
where it collects on top and is picked up on the soles of the shoes walking across it.
With rising building maintenance costs and in the unfortunate case of a slip and fall
accident, possible litigation costs, it’s become a priority to protect both your building,
and the people who
enter it.
