can you learn geometry with magnets??. of course yes. you require a lot of disc magnets,
some glue and lots of bottle caps. if you take a north and a south magnet they stick
to each other, but if you reverse one, they become like poles and they repel each other.
because they are similar poles. there are these magnets which are arranged as repelling
orientation. if you bring one from the one inside they repel the central one. apply glue
on the top of all these seven magnets and then stick them to the bottom of the plastic
bottle caps. remember that the orientation of the magnet should not change. so here are
these seven lids with seven magnets all in a repelling mode. this is the bottom of the
lid. now take a large jar of water and place one magnet. as soon as you place the second
one, they repel each other. if you add on a third one. they automatically take the shape
of a triangle. if you ad still one more, they orient themselves into a square formation.
if you add still one more, it remains in the center. add one more and the outer periphery
is like a pentagon. place one more and this becomes a hexagon outside with a center. this
is a very elegant side view. now you can play around with these magnets. if you displace
the central one, you can see the others immediately responding and they again come back to the
same equilibrium. now you can have a reverse play, removing one lid after the other, yes
this becomes a pentagon. remove one more and this becomes a square, remove one more and
make a triangle. now quickly put these magnets back, three make a triangle, four make square,
five you can make a pentagon outside, six makes a hexagon. so have great fun with magnets.
