Hi, my name is Austin Harmon, but out here I'm known as Forrest Evergreen, and I'm here
on expertvillage.com to teach you about the game of Amtgard. We do different styles of
games. What we were talking about earlier, and what you see going on behind me is what
is called a trench battle. Like we said before, that is just straight up melee combat; hand
to hand only; no armor; no special abilities. We then have full clash battle games, so people
will put on armor, people will use their magic abilities, people will have class abilities;
like if I'm a paladin, and I can actually bring somebody back from the dead once per
game, or twice per game; I can do things like that. We have some games that have different
scenarios. Sometimes it's just killing off the other team; sometimes it's the flag capture.
You have to capture the opponent?s flag, and hold it for a certain period of time to earn
a point. First team to get five points wins. Sometimes we'll play a ring the bell style
game, where there's a central object, and whichever team can get to that object, and
touch it first; just make contact with it; earns a point. Sometimes we'll have large
scale wars, and a lot of times we'll actually do those wars with other groups from other
areas. We'll go down to the Austin area, and fight a large war with them, or we'll go up
to Denver, and fight a large war with them. The wars are usually wrapped around large
scale events; like we talked about earlier. These events will normally be anywhere from
four to seven days in length, and people will go up there, and camp out for the entire time,
and be fighting and playing the game a majority of the time. We usually do a lot of the singing
and storytelling at night, and we swap stories about things that have happened throughout
the years; throughout the events. It's a real social organization; as well, and there's
a lot more to it than just straight up hand to hand fighting.
