So a student
can look at a program and they may already have certain competencies. They may
be across certain areas
but need to refresh their skills in certain subjects so they can just
concentrate on those areas.
So in that context they can just do x units to refresh their skills for industry for
current knowledge. Our facilities are driven by a process we call the
Industry Advisory Committees.
Each program has an industry advisory committee with a selection of
practitioners from industry; say for the television production program we have a
number of people from the various
television networks;
sound production we have reps from all the major sound studios around Melbourne.
And these people advise us on a number of facets of the program particularly
around facilities because it's crucial that we're training people for current knowledge,
because the industry wants to know that the graduate from our program is
industry ready - they're ready to be on the floor straight away without retraining.
So it's in their interest as well as our interest to make sure that we are
delivering to current
standards and that our technology, our facilities, are industry standard.
Student successes in industry include a number of published authors from the
PWE program; we have a number of successful writers
from the screenwriting program now working in industry;
many people placed in television production in a number of the television
networks; most of the sound studios in melbourne currently have RMIT
graduates. We basically within the media and comms TAFE programs have a very, very
high industry placement statistic. We have a variety of offerings, from
offerings during the day - weekdays - to
part-time offerings to
after-hours programs.
There's a lot of flexibility within the programs as far as study's concerned.
