Much of our life today is dominated by
visual stimulation.
We have TV, we have film
we have computer games, we have
everything that has lots of visuals.
But when
you actually tell a story
without any visuals
it stimulates the brain
to go into imagery thinking.
If you're doing for children, it is a very powerful thing
to do for them
because
it actually helps enhance intelligence.
It sounds like a wild claim but it's true.
All those neurons and synapses are going mad and making
connections in the brain
because it's a very active use of the brain.
When you're watching TV
it's a very passive use of the brain
and so for children, telling stories is one of the best things you can do
for them educationally.
In fact
it has been said
that a predictor of a child's educational success is the number of stories they
know
because listening to stories, telling stories actually is a higher
order thinking skill
and the more you use these higher order thinking skills
the more they will become entrenched in the brain.
