Hey everybody, Mike Linville here from Black Dog Education where we teach
small business owners how to build, market, and maintain fully search engine optimized
websites, and I'm glad you're here today. In this video, this really short video, I'm
going to talking about the three main purposes for a website. Now we've all seen thousands
of websites and they all do things differently, if they didn't it would be very boring online,
but if you sit back and just take a step back and look at what the businesses themselves
are trying to accomplish with what they're doing it all should boil down to one of three
functions. The first one is brand building. So you know, reason number one for having
a website, build your brand get your presence out there and talk to people. Let them know
about who you are. Now if you think about brand building, it's more than just, it's
more than just a logo or more than just a company name think about the great brands
of our time. Coca-Cola, Apple, Mercedes-Benz, when you think of those names, I'm sure probably
some sort of image pops into your head right. It's more than just a logo it's what that
makes you feel like? How does it make you want their products and stuff like that. So
you know, when you think about building your brand what you have to do is instill that
level of emotional connection with people about your products, your services, your company.
The second purpose of the website is going to be generating leads. Now you've probably
all seen the website that has a call to action, a nice 1-800 number something like that for
a free estimate or for a free quote or know, your name e-mail address here to download
the this free report or white papers or something like that. Those are all lead generation forms.
So when you put in your name and e-mail into a form that you're then a lead for somebody
and you're probably going to get followed up with somebody whether via e-mail or phone
call whatever the case may be. The third purpose of the website is to actually make money and
get people to either the point where they can see your product and service they can
click on add to cart button and then they can buy your product shipped you give money
the world's a great place. So remember three main purposes for a website: build your brand,
generate leads, and generated sales. If what you have on your web doesn't do one of those
things, or contribute to one of those things I probably suggest taking a look because you
probably don't need it. Thanks for stopping by, this one was a real quick one today, I
really appreciate your time. Make sure that you tune in next time where I'm going to discuss
how your web developer may be taking advantage of you. Until next time this is Mike Linville
