OK what's it going to take to light a fire under the *** of these candidates and get
them to speak honestly, with passion, with conviction
Because I came to this forum to listen to the candidates, expected to hear something.
You know fire and brimstone get down there get into it. Talk what's happening with politics, with our world.
And what do you see for the future. Why you should be the one that's collected because listen,
one of these four candidates is going to be in the government come May.
They will be elected. They’ll be heading to Ottawa representing Kelowna-Okanagan Lake Country
They will be representing us, going to Ottawa.
They will be a politician and as a politician I want someone that has passion.
That cares about the issues, cares about the people.
And all I got in their five minute speeches was very dry repeat of the platforms, political messages,
of the parties of the politicians. It was really well-rehearsed
But it didn't convey any excitement, any feeling.
Perhaps it's because of the political spin-doctors & handlers & everyone else -
You don't want to come off as too passionate because then they’re going to think your over engaged.
You don't want to say anything that might be held against you later.
You don’t want to do this, you don't want to do that
and as such they do nothing that nothing.
That nothingness over years has resulted in a bigger & bigger Canadian apathy against politicians
People are not voting.
But the other reason they're not voting is that we don't trust. We don't believe our politicians.
So I came up with this little question because a couple of months ago
on Jeopardy, they had this IBM computer - WATSON
And it was a supercomputer. Years to build to program to think like a person.
And I thought to myself if I was to build a computer with the same
features.. It’ll be like a person and it's going to be a super computer
This is going to be the top of the line.
It’s now going to be the prime minister of Canada. What are the attributes that I would want this computer to have?
And for me some of the major attributes that I would want our leader- first of all how about honesty
I am passionate about honesty. If we have a leader I want him when he comes out and says
“listen there’s a disease happening we're going to do this
I will believe him because he's an honest guy
If he says the economy is going good, I’m going to believe him. If he says the economy's going bad,
I’m going to believe him.
If he says that there's no nuclear fallout coming over from Japan, I’m going to believe him because he's trustworthy.
That’s the kind of politician I want to hear about. I want someone with conviction,
someone who stands on principle all these different things
And to be quite honest,
I don't find that in Stephen Harper - I’ve never denied the fact that Stephen Harper
causes me . . . I don't trust the guy. It’s that simple
That’s not to take a away from any of the other conservative candidates.
I’m talking about Stephen Harper as a man. Even today I can find all sorts of examples; he's back on this coalition kick
Isn’t that what he tried to do when he was in opposition?
A coalition. But that's beside the point I don't want to talk about negative things that divide people.
Canada’s population is aging.
How are we going to handle more healthcare funding?
and at the same time when he's trying to increase the funding for the military.
Where’s the money going to come from? Is this voodo economics?
How is he going to handle education when kids are graduating and there's no jobs out there?
Oh yes, McDonald’s is having a hiring fair.
Environment-how are we going to handle the environment?
Water – there’s so many different things that we can get engaged about and talked about
that affects Canadian’s all across the spectrum, from coast-to-coast
But not about division.
That’s not good for Canada. It’s not good for Canadians.
It disengages us.
What about tax cuts for the companies, businesses? Most Canadians oppose it.
Let’s talk about real issues
At least that's the way I see it.
