Lauren: Our team collectively went to Phoenix in order to work with the technical team thats
based there and we were developing a new website and user experience thats supposed to communicate
the benefits of OPEN membership to small business owners. We were there for about four days
and it was really great. We had a wonderful brainstorming sessions with the teams where
the tech team really brought the user experience side and we brought the marketing lense and
the customer insights and together we really, I think, created a great website expereince
and Im really excited to see it progress and come to fruition in the next few weeks.
Lauren: Building a relationship at American Express is actually really fun. Often it starts
with a coffee chat or a quick hello in the hallway. Its really great and easy to meet
people here and Ive really appreciated it because Ive learned about all these different
functions at American Express. Im personally in the digital marketing space but Ive learned
about everything from marketing campaigns to direct mail to product management and Ive
really appreciated that.
Lauren: I think whats great about OPEN is getting to know the small business owner on
so many levels. So on one level you have an official research group here internally at
American Express thats actually conducting focus groups with small business owners for
any project that your doing so your getting real customer feedback in an organized format.
Also theres a get out of the building mentallity here where every employee is encouraged to
just go out and talk to small business owners whenever they can. There is actually an externship
program where every Tuesday employees actually go out to the site of random small business
owners and there able to talk with them and engage with them. Its great to keep everything
real and grounded and it helps drive quality and value in everything that OPEN is creating.
Lauren: Im actually really excited my presentation is in two days. There are a little bit of nerves
but I would say more on the positive side. Ive been working on the deck or Powerpoint
for about a week now and Ive been going through a lot of iterations of all of the slides and
my hiring lead has been really helpful throughout the process. She is always giving me constructive
feedback and helping me improve. The most important thing Ive taken away from the experience
is to keep things as simple as possible and as engaging as possible, especially when you
are trying to present a lot of information.
