Welcome to the Ministry of Finance video on how to set up a Third-Party Tax Preparer's
eTaxBC account.
To enroll from the Provincial Sales Tax website, go to www.gov.bc.ca/PST and click on Reporting
and Paying Tax.
Next click on eTaxBC,
and finally click on Enroll as a Third-Party Tax Preparer.
Your next step is to fill out the enrollment form for Third Party Tax Preparer access.
Once you have completed the form, click on submit. When your Third Party enrollment
request form has been successfully processed you will receive a welcome e-mail with an
access code.
It is important that you make a note of this access code as you will be asked for it the
first time you logon to your eTaxBC account.
You are now ready to send requests for access to your clients' accounts. We will demonstrate
how to do this from eTaxBC.
Navigate to eTaxBC.
Now you will need to navigate to the logon page for your eTaxBC account and enter your
Third-Party Tax Preparer username and password, and your new access code if this is your first
time using this account.
Once you have logged on to your eTaxBC account, within the Navigation Panel, click on "My
Profile".
Within the Navigation Panel, click on "Request Access to Account" to request access to your
clients' accounts.
On the Request form, enter your Client's Business Number, your Client's Account Number,
and select the Access Level Requested.
The Access Levels are as follows:
File: This Access Level allows the User to file tax returns only for the Account.
File & Pay: This Access Level allows the User to file tax returns as well as make payments
to the Account.
Pay: This Access Level allows the User to only make payments to the Account.
View: This Access Level allows the User view only access the Account.
Click the Validate button.
Your request will be validated to confirm we have an account matching the information
you have entered for your client. You will receive a message saying the account was successfully
validated, or that the account cannot be validated.
Once you receive a successful validation message, click on the "Submit" button to send your
request to the Ministry.
You will receive a confirmation number if your request was received successfully.
Click the "Print Confirmation" button to print an official confirmation from the Ministry
or to save a copy to your computer.
Click "OK" to return to the My Profile window. You can now complete additional requests
Once the third party tax preparer request has been validated and submitted to the Ministry,
the client company will receive an e-mail that an eTaxBC Access Request has been made,
as shown below.
In order to complete the process, your client will need to grant you access to their account.
We'll now walk through the steps that the client company will need to take to grant
access to their bookkeeper or accountant.
First, your client will need to logon to their eTaxBC account and Click on "My Profile" within
the Navigation Panel.
Next, they will click on "View Request for Access" to open the Review Access Request
screen.
Your client will then review the Access Request and verify the Access Level Requested.
Please note - your client can change the access level if they wish.
On the Approval Panel, the client must select the Approve option and then click the Submit
button
Once the request has been received by the ministry, a Confirmation number will be generated.
Your client can click on the "Print Confirmation" button to print an official confirmation from
the Ministry or save a copy on their computer.
They can then click on the "OK" button to return to the My Profile Window. This confirmation
number can be used for further discussion with the Ministry.
Once your client has approved the request, you will be notified by email.
As a third party tax preparer, you can logon to your eTaxBC account and view your clients'
accounts from the "Clients' Accounts" Sub Tab located under the "Accounts" Tab.
If you have set up access to multiple clients' accounts, the Balance displayed on the screen
is the total outstanding for all accounts you have access to, including your own PST
accounts.
You can now click on a client's account number to view, file returns, or make payments
for the account.
