Step 6: Sub-bass
In the previous video, I talked about layering bass.
Since all the bass instruments that I used have a different sub-bass component, the bass will not be "fat".
This is why you had to cut this sub's harmonics and re-create it.
Sub-bass is just one single harmonic, which plays in the frequency range from 40 to 80 hertz.
So first we need to create a sub-bass sample, and then use it in the sampler.
To begin, I will load Operator on an empty MIDI channel.
Next, create a MIDI clip with a single note of C1 and then resample it.
Next, on the new midi channel load the C1 sample in the Simpler.
Let's look at the spectrum of the signal.
We can see that there is only one harmonic in the sound.
So this instrument is a great choice for sub-bass.
The main idea of this technique is to fully repeat the sub-bass motion like in the main bass line.
To do this, choose the right notes for the sub-bass instrument.
Load the midi-clip into the sub-bass channel.
We have one of the instruments with glide, and you need to make the same glide in a sub-bass.
Let's listen to what we made.
Excellent and fat sound.
Now let's listen to how it sounds before the processing and layering,
and after adding sub-bass.
The difference is very noticeable.
In my tracks I always use this technique of sub-bass layering.
