Welcome to the ME-1 personal mixer – this video will help you to get to find your way
around the basic features and functions of your mixer.
ME-1 is designed to be incredibly easy to use – so after a bit of practise you’ll
find you hardly have to think about it, leaving you free to focus on your performance.
So let’s take a look at the ME-1.
The first thing you see when you power up the ME-1 is the Home screen. You can see that
the unit or user has been given a name, and you’ve got meters here following the stereo
master output.
Right at the top of your ME-1 there is a Master Level control – that’s the main volume
control for your headphones or in-ears.
On the other side you’ll see a Local Mic control – this adjusts the level of the
built-in microphone to add ambient stage sound to your headphones or in-ears and helps you
communicate with your fellow musicians. It’s also great to be able to hear the applause
from the audience.
Depending on how your ME-1 has been set up, different sources or groups of sources will
have been assigned to some or all of the 16 Select Keys.
It’s the balance of these sources that make up the mix you’ll be hearing in your headphones
or in-ears.
Let’s take a closer look at one of the sources. Let’s say I want to adjust my guitar. So
I press the relevant Select Key and straight away you can see the source name, level, and
pan controls.
To adjust the level I just need to turn the rotary.
If I want to change the pan or balance setting I press the rotary and keep it pressed whilst
I pan left or right.
If I want to turn a source off I can press Mute.
If I come out of this source and select something else, the muted keys flash – so I’ve got
a visual reminder that those sources are muted. If I select a muted source I just press Mute
again to unmute it.
If I want to listen to a single source in isolation I press Solo.
The Solo key flashes and the meter shows the level of the selected source.
If I press another Select key I can solo a different selection.
When I want to come out of Solo mode I just press Solo again.
Pressing and holding Solo for a couple of seconds puts the ME-1 into a momentary Solo
mode – as soon as I release my finger Solo is cancelled.
That covers the basics of using your ME-1 – in the next video we’ll explore some
of the more advanced features such as groups, EQ and storing presets, that will help you
to get even more out of using your ME-1.
