Now when it comes to Conservation of Matter I want you to
remember that a scientific law describes something that
nature does while a scientific theory proposes a method
for how nature does the thing described. Now the Law of
Conservation of Matter says that in nature matter may change
in appearance or chemical composition, but the total amount
of matter available in the universe does not change. When
you apply this law to a chemical reaction this means that
the total amount of matter present before the reaction
must be equal to the amount of matter after the
reaction. Now we're going to discuss in a little bit how a
balanced chemical equation illustrates this property.
