Hello!
This video will introduce the Interlibrary Loan service offered by Allen Memorial Library,
and will demonstrate how to request an item from another library in Primo.
Interlibrary Loan (or ILL) is an amazing service offered by the library that allows users to
borrow materials from other libraries for free!
To take advantage of this service, simply locate the items you wish to borrow, and make
a request.
First, search for the item in our catalog to make sure that we do not own it.
If you cannot find the item in our catalog, use Primo to search for the item in other
North Dakota libraries. To search in other libraries' collections, click the All ODIN
Libraries tab. This will display results throughout the Online Dakota Information Network, or
ODIN.
If you happen to find the item you wish to borrow, simply click the Request link. If
you have opened the record, click Request tab to begin the ILL request process.
If you are not logged into the system, you will be prompted to login to your library
account. Use the same information you use to access other library resources. This is
usually your Blackboard Username and ConnectND password.
Once you have logged in, you will see an ILL request form.
First, select your desired media. Note the Tips section on the right side of the page.
This section will provide helpful information about how to fill this portion of the ILL request.
If you are hoping to borrow a book, select Printed (Loan).
After selecting the proper format, you will be asked when you no longer need the item.
Please select a realistic time frame for us to source the items that you need, and keep
in mind that ILL items may take three to ten business days to arrive, depending on the
distance they must travel.
You're almost finished! You will need to let us know if this is an item you are willing
to pay for. Most of the time, your answer should be no. ILL is a free service, so we
will not charge you for anything we do—though, occasionally, other libraries will. If you
have any questions about this step, please ask a librarian.
Once you have reviewed your ILL form, click Request. You will be asked to respond to a
Copyright Agreement. If you accept, your request will be submitted.
You can track your request by accessing your online library account. Please refer to our
My Account video for more information, or visit our website, at library.vcsu.edu.
