>>Announcer: Wells Fargo surveyed small businesses across America to find out how they feel about
the year ahead.Wells Fargo's Senior Economist Mark Vitner shares the survey results and
his take on economic conditions for small businesses.
>> We saw a dramatic 21-point improvement in the small business confidence during the
first quarter and it brought the overall index up to its highest level in five years. And
something obviously has changed. Businesses feel better about the environment that they--
that they're operating in today than any other time since the recession ended. We're still
coming off some pretty low levels following the recession but revenues have increased,
margins have improved. Businesses have more workers on their payrolls right now. Things
are looking up. Not only are we seeing that businesses are saying that there are fewer
bad things going on in the economy, but they're also saying that there's more good news. Sales
are strengthening.Profit margins are widening. More businesses are looking at increasing
their capital expenditures, and it's these positives that I think are really going to
translate in a stronger economic growth in 2014.
