In this video, learn how to handle a dropped student in Moodle.
In this scenario, test student 01 has dropped the course SC-101. At Davidson, instructors
are responsible for changing students from active to suspended in Moodle if they are
dropped their course. This process is important because it can affect DCCC's audit, who receives
course evaluations, as well as our early alert system, Starfish.
To begin, find your settings block. Remember, it could be docked on the side. If so, click
on the word settings and then click the undock this item icon. Within the settings block,
go to the course administration section and find users. Finally, click on enrolled users.
This shows you a list of everyone who is enrolled in your course in some role. As you can see
here, the test teacher is enrolled as a teacher, where as if we scroll down, moodle test 01
is enrolled as a student. To suspend a user, scroll down to the student and locate the
edit icon to the far right of their name. Change their status from active to suspended
and then click save changes.
As a result, the student can no longer see or access the course. Instructors will notice
that users have a special icon next to their name in the gradebook. The icon can be seen
by going to the grades link within the settings block and then locate the student within the
grader report. The icon can be seen here.
And that is how you handle a dropped student in moodle.
