A long, long, time ago... 1904 to be exact, the Macomb Public Library opened their doors.
Today, more than 100 years later, they want to update
and expand and they're asking for your help.
"We have secured a $3.2 million loan...
provided we come up with 25% of our share," says Melissa Inman.
The Campaign for the Future started in October.
Local businesses have been very willing to help and the library...
is well on its way to reaching their goal of $794,000.
"This $10,000 gift that the bank has given us...
has put us over the $500,000 mark which is a...
tremendous accomplishment by this time," says Judy Kerr.
But businesses aren't the only ones helping the library.
"Children have participated,
collecting coins and pop tops and this all converts to money," says Kerr.
If donations continue and all goes as planned, by this time next year this whole area here...
will be part of the library.
"The library is going to be essentially doubled in size with this new building.
It will be about 10,000 square feet and it will...
resemble the original Carnegie Library," says Kerr.
The money needs to be raised by June 30th. but Melissa and Judy hope to have construction going by then.
They are so appreciative of everyone's help so far.
"We're just so ongoing and we're very enthusiastic...
and we just think the best will come of this," says Kerr.
"We are so grateful that we've come this far," says Inman.
As of yesterday, you can make donations online using a debit card,
credit card, or PayPal.
You can also send a check or stop by the library for more information.
