On September 26 we are closing down the coal-fired power station at Amager with a mass civil disobedience action.
We do this because the politicians have not yet taken the consequences of global warming.
They profile themselves as environmentalists, while their actions show that they have neither the will
nor the courage to make the necessary changes.
We are now standing in front of the power station, which uses approximately 470 tons of coal per year
and produces over 1 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
Vattenfall would really like to be seen as climate friendly, but the fact is that they only have 406 wind turbines.
At first it may sound very good, but the truth is that they produce only one tenth of the power
they produce on their two conventional power plants, where the Amager plant is one of them.
SHUT IT DOWN is a mass civil disobedience action that will take place on 26 September
when we close the Amager plant through peaceful means,
in a big popular action where there is lots of fun and colourful troubles, tea and folk kitchen.
Our goal with the project is to enter the plant and stop their burning of coal.
But it is also to highlight the hypocrisy of politicians when they talk about Denmark
as a green and environmentally friendly country. It is a downright falsehood.
In 2003, Denmark was at a seventh position of the world's most coal-consuming countries,
surpassed only by countries with coal underground.
It clearly shows that Denmark is now a part of the problem and not part of the solution.
On the day of action there is going to be three different groups.
There will be a big main demonstration, which will be popular and festive. And this is where we expect that most people will be.
For those who need something more active, there will be a green and a purple group,
each of which will try to penetrate the Amager plant in a different manner.
The green group will be the one who will be the most mobile, while the purple group
will be the one helping the green group before trying themselves to enter the Amager plant.
If you want to participate in one of them please read more info at shutitdown.dk
The previous government introduced a coal stop in 1997, which meant an end for the expansion in coal powered plants.
The current government removed this coal stop in 2007,
which resulted in bio-fuelled power plants turned back to firing with coal
- a giant step backwards
Finally, I would just like to say that it will be super cool if so many people as possible showed up on 26 at 2 pm
at Christianshavns Square, and help us show the politicians how to do. THANK YOU!
