As a kid I used to have a lot of problems, health problems, my stomach. I used to be
in and out of the emergency room, not knowing why.
Once I stopped eating meat I saw the difference. I haven’t been, I haven’t been to a hospital
because of stomach problems.
I became a vegetarian for Thanksgiving, which people would actually say ‘Well, you’re
crazy.’ You know what, I’m very happy. It changed my life, for good.
I find absolutely anywhere I go I can always find something to eat, which is important.
I take better care of what I eat, too.
We’re in a world where we have options; we have options to buy something that looks
like fur without having to hurt anybody. Watching the video from PETA, it just made
me realize [video footage starts showing tethered cow, struggling, then a cow hanging with blood
gushing from neck] how much unconsciously, or because of ignorance we don’t know what
we’re doing to animals, and ecology, you know what I’m saying. It’s just cruel,
ignorance, a lot of ignorance on our part as human beings [video footage ends],
because we’re going against animals; they don’t have somebody to speak for them but
us.
I think that every single animal has a personality of their own. As a matter of fact I have two
dogs [dogs appear on screen]; one, Chico, he has this very silly personality; the other
one, she’s very female, she’s like a little princess.
Every single one should have the freedom to be loved and be cared for.
Honestly, the reason why I wanted to do this is for my community. I see how many Latinos,
just because they want to follow a pattern of, like, ‘Well, my mother gave me three
glasses of milk a day,’ but who said that, where did you learn that, you know what I’m
saying. And I have people telling me ‘Well, you’re
Latin, how come you don’t eat meat?’ But who says that you’re supposed to eat meat?
I want to be somebody that sends a good message out there, somebody that teaches people that
there are options. They grew up not knowing that they have a
problem, and they become adults, they end up in hospitals, very ill, very sick, and
that’s the way the whole chain goes around, because that’s
exactly what they’re teaching their own kids. And somebody has to come and say
‘Hey, listen, buddy, there’s an option to be healthy.’
