Welcome to video tutorials for students brought to you by the Computing & Technology Services office at Buffalo State College.
In this tutorial we’ll demonstrate how to reset your PIN number for Banner.
Banner is Buffalo State’s online student information and registration system.
As a student, you’ll need to use Banner to do things such as register for classes.
And to view and accept your financial aid.
To access Banner, you need to know your Banner ID and PIN number.
If you don’t know your Banner number, please refer to our video tutorial on using the Banner ID lookup tool.
If this is your first time logging in, your PIN number will be your date of birth in Month-Month-Day-Day-Year-Year format.
For example, if you were born on April 1st, 1990, your initial PIN would be 040190.
However, if you changed your PIN already and forgot what it is, you’ll need to do a reset.
Resetting your PIN is very easy, as long as you remember the answer to your security question.
To get started, visit the Buffalo State website at www.buffalostate.edu.
When you get there, click the MyBuffState link at the top and then select Students.
Notice that you can access most campus systems right from this Toolbox,
including ANGEL, Banner, Degree Navigator and Student Gmail.
For this tutorial, we’ll demonstrate how to reset your Banner PIN, so we’ll click the Banner link.
Now, click the Banner button that appears in the middle of the page. Click Log in to Banner.
You’ll notice that there is a Forgot PIN? button right next to the Login button. This is the button you’ll use to reset your PIN.
To reset your PIN, the first thing you must do is enter your Banner ID in the User ID field.
If you just click on the Forgot PIN? button without first entering your ID,
you’ll receive an “Authorization Failure” message, and you'll just have to start over.
Again, if you don’t remember your Banner ID number, you can refer to our video tutorial on looking up your ID.
For this demonstration we’ll reset the PIN for our Sandy Student test account.
Since Sandy doesn’t remember her PIN we’ll leave the PIN field empty.
Now I’m going to click the Forgot PIN? button.
On the next page, you should see the security question you created when you first logged into Banner.
Sandy’s question is “In what city were you born?”
In the Answer field, enter the answer to your question.
The answer must be entered exactly as it was when you setup your security question, so enter your answer carefully.
I’ll go ahead and enter Sandy’s answer in the Answer field.
Once you’ve entered your answer, you can click the Submit Answer button.
Assuming the answer you submitted is correct, the next screen you see will prompt you to create a new PIN.
Go ahead and enter your New PIN. And remember that the new PIN must be at least 6 characters long.
You can use letters or numbers, or a combination of both. And please note that if you choose to use letters in your PIN,
letters are case sensitive.
Now, enter your new PIN again in the Re-enter new PIN box, and click the Reset PIN.
If the reset was successful, you should now see the Main Menu.
That concludes this video tutorial. If you need assistance with your accounts,
please contact the Computing Help Desk using one of the methods listed here.
