Good morning and thanks for everyone attending.
As you know, this year’s PAS Gala and Silent Auction is coming up soon
and we need to begin production on an intro video for the event.
I hope this one will be as great as my video was last year!
We’ve asked you all here to help us work through a bit of writer’s block
and we simply could not come up with the great idea for video this year
and we thought who better to help us then folks who have been so instrumental
in our video in the past, and that's all of you.
Evan, who could forget your stunning portrayal of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever!
Rome, your letter touched everyone last year.
Bill, your testamental in 2008 of PAS support to the faculty was absolutely wonderful.
And, Gordy, who could forget your villainous portray role as Gordfinger in 2007!
Are we going to get paid for this?
No, Rome. You will get the eternal thanks of the PAS
and you guys might get a new car when in graduation.
So what message do you want to get across this year?
Bill, we want to get all of our messages accross.
We want to get all the message accross that all the great work that PAS does to support arts here in Macomb.
Are you still doing the kid shows on campus?
The Youth performing arts series is the cornerstone of PAS programming. In fact that program we are most proud of.
How about if you tell people how much all the kids enjoy the shows.
Are the shows still free?
The shows are still free to participating schools .
as a matter of fact, PAS provides 100% reimbursement of transportation cost to bring those kids to western.
Does all that cost a lot?
Yes, it does, Rome.
This year alone, we will spend $35,000 bringing all of the artists here to campus
and to entertain and educate the kids,
and in fact we expect the audience of 6000 kids this year.
PAS still supports the Bureau of Cultural Affairs, right?
As we always have! PAS has supported the Bureau of Cultural Affairs since mid 80's.
Are all the Broadway shows that come here BCA shows?
Yes, they are, but not just Broadway. Its singers, dancers, and actors.
BCA brings a numbers of performances.
This year for instance, BCA will bring 13 different performances, here to campus.
I can’t imagine what the cultural scene in Macomb would have been without the BCA events.
So….tell people in your video how great the BCA shows are.
What about PAS support for kids to go to Summer Music Camp at Westerns?
PAS is long supported, kids to attend the summer music camps, at Westerns with scholarships support.
This past summer alone, this past summer, PAS supported 53 area school children with scholarships.
Is that an annual event?
It's not just an annual event, its actually a line item in the PAS budget.
That's how strongly the organization strong feels about supporting summer music camps.
So there’s another point to make in your video.
You are also well into the fourth year of funding to our artistic faculty, is that going to continue?
Yes. It will continue.
Since inception of that program, PAS has provided more than $80,000 to support to our faculty.
I was one of the first beneficiary actually.
By that time Bard in the Barn was just really in an experiment, now going on to have bit of national profile and really grateful to PAS, to helping get off the ground.
PAS is not only supported the Department of Theatre and Dance,
but also to the School of Music, and the Department of Art.
This all sounds like cool stuff, but how does PAS get all this money from?
Will short answer Evan is, we get money from people just like you
who support the organization and believed in supporting arts here in Macomb.
That includes PAS memberships?
Absolutely. In fact membership in PAS accounts for at least half of all PAS income all the organization take in.
What about the Gala?
Well, the Gala is one of many fundrasing events.
Our four fundraising events….especially including the Gala…bring in about a quarter of all PAS income.
So, do all the tickets that you make for the Gala go to the PAS activities.
Not exactly. The tickets for the Gala actually covered the event itself.
Our attendees are paying for their meal, and they are paying for the band, and decorations and all the fun stuff happen at the Gala.
In order for PAS to benefit at the Gala, we actually need the people to get out and spend money at the auction.
That's how PAS brings the income on that night.
Is there any corporate support for PAS?
Absolutely. We have enjoy great corporate support here in Macomb
in a form of cash gifts or as well as in kind gifts.
We simply couldn't do what we do in an organization,
without our business help, which includes help from businesses tonight silent auctions.
You would think that everyone would want to support PAS with all the cool stuff they do?
Well you would Rome. And to us it doesn't matter if you join the organization with $10 or
or $100 or $1,000….as long as they join.
By joining membership is a vote of affirmation and support what PAS does here in Macomb.
This is all great, but I’m still not sure how we can help with the video?
You know Evan, I think you’ve all been a big help already.
Are we almost finished, I’ve got to tape MY program this morning!
Sitdown Gordy, you are retired, you got nothing to do, and you got no where to go, so hang tight..
Never mind.
Kids thank you for coming and don't forget talk to your folks about that new car for graduation.
Bill, thank you for participating, and best of luck with the Henry VI in the spring time.
So are you going to plan another grand entrance for the Gala….some singing? Some dancing?
I hope so. We were thinking about a palying off on the Oscar theme? Maybe something with the “Best Picture” of the past?
Something from Shakespeare in Love, the Sound of Music or Driving Miss Daisy (with sarcasm)?
Um, No.... Maybe something from Gladiator or Bravehart or maybe Patton!
May be think about something like "The Silence of the Lambs"
hmmmmmm...... "The Silence of the Lambs", that's might work.
