[Alec] Yeah, he's running pretty good, Henr.
But the Black can handle him.
He busted my watch.
Looks like we got a real horse race on our hands.
Listen to me, Alec.
It's not over until the fat lady sings
and that goes for the Black and you remember it.
Will you help me pick out a birthday present for Mom?
Do you know what you're gonna get her,
or do I have to go through every store in town?
Well, I haven't really thought of anything yet.
That's par for the course. Go take care of the Black and we're off.
You got it.
Hey, Henry.
No, no, Frankie. Don't worry about it.
You know, Frankie, I've told you again and again.
How many times have we got to go through this? Eh?
All right. Talk to you later. Bye.
Hello, Henry. It's been a long time.
Well, Leonard Grimes.
What rock did you crawl out from underneath?
I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd drop by
and renew acquaintances.
Oh, that's so nice of you.
You've been making quite a name for yourself lately.
If you say so.
That's a remarkable animal you've found.
My congratulations.
He seems to be unbeatable.
Makes for some pretty interesting odds.
Listen, Grimes. I don't like you,
I don't like people who look like you.
I don't think we have anything to talk about,
so excuse me, will you?
I think we have lots to talk about.
Avalon Park, for instance.
Or is that something you'd rather your new friends didn't know abo?
What is it you really want, Grimes?
I just wanna do a little business, Henry. That's all.
I don't like the way you do business.
That's too bad.
We are gonna do business, Henry.
And this time we're gonna do things my way.

I'm an old pal of Henry's.

Hi. Are you a trainer?
I used to be.
Nowadays I do most of my work up there instead of in here.

I'm not sure, but if you guys wait here, I'll go find him.
Henry.
Thanks, Darrell. It'll all work out.

No. Nothing's the matter.

Henry said he was too busy to come.

Henry Dailey saying no to a free meal.

I was in the Black's stall.

[Woman] Ooh, here we go.

[Announcer] There they go!
As they settle into stride, Nelly's Pride, from along the inside,

[Announcer] Velvet Royal, Misty Girl, Apprentice Skip,
and on the outside, the favorite, the Black, a length off the lead.
Misty Girl with the lead down by a length and a half.
Pierre!
Go on down and pick him up when he gets through.
[Announcer] Velvet Royal and the Black still trailing the lead.
Alec! Get on his horse, Alec.
Keep on him, Alec!
[Announcer] Now the Black is steadily moving up.
He was fifth, now he's fourth, now he's third,
and gaining on the leader with every stride.
[crowd cheering]
[Announcer] Misty Girl and the Black on the outside.
These two are going along, head and head,
neck and neck. They're on the stretch turn now.
And from the inside, we have Misty Girl.
On the outside, the Black.
Get him, Alec!
[Announcer] It's the lead, they come down. Misty Girl on the inside.
The Black on the outside. The Black now a head in front.
The Black now pulls away.
We won it! We won it, Alec!
[crowd cheering]
[Man] Three in a row.
[Woman] Let's go bet Uncle Hassett...
Thank you.
Thank you.
Congratulations.
Congratulations.

I was wearing a wire from the first day.
No evidence, huh? Listen to this.
[Grimes] There's people I gotta answer to.
People I gotta pay. But first, you're gonna pay.
Now get in that car.
Grimes, when you get out,

Right.
You got it. See ya!
[honks horn]
Right over here. This one.
Where'd you meet this Grimes?
A racetrack called Avalon Park, years ago.
He wanted me to fix a race for him.
I was scared to death. I didn't say yes, I didn't say no.
Next day, the horse won
by six lengths, because he was a good horse.
Yeah, and then the word got around
that I was doping racers for him, which wasn't true.
Called me up before the administration,
I was exonerated. But from then on,
people looked at me very strangely.
I'm sorry.
It happened a long time ago.
How come you didn't tell me what was going on?
The police and I both thought
you'd be much safer not knowing.
I could've helped.
Yeah, if your mom had of known about it,
she'd have tarred and feathered me
and had me out in a field running a tractor.
[both chuckle]
Well, maybe.
But I still think it would've been cool.
Cool? Yeah, it'd have been cool.
But the water would have been hot.
