Good morning
I'm going to show you a farmhouse
on the outskirts of Mahon
it is a farmhouse which is practically original
and the house is approximately 300 years old
and over the years it has undergone various additions and alterations
it retains all of the style and charm of a Menorcan house
and is waiting for other modernisations to bring it up-to-date
Let's go into the property
and see the surroundings
as I said, the original structure and style have been conserved
and you can see that it is a very special house
the owner of the house is a well-known painter here in Mahon
and the house is full of paintings and other interesting objects
as well as maintaining the style and charm that you would hope to find
and a person who appreciates old things
in terms of conservation, the house is perfect
although it needs painting
well, let's move on
there are 6 bedrooms in total
this space is a distribution corridor and also the hallway
this is an interior sitting room
and continuing on, there are two bathrooms
1 bathroom sorry, and two bedrooms
we are on the north side of the house
in what used to be the stables of the house
and this bedroom, for example, has been converted
the bedroom used to be in its time a stable
and here we have the old troughs
and a fireplace has been added
here we have another bedroom
which is currently being used as a sitting room
it is a house that could be distributed as you like
and take full advantage of it
as we find the house in almost its original state
in terms of its distribution
there are many possibilities
it has lots of charm, and it is very close to Mahon at the same time
and it has land of approximately 2,900 square metres
just enough land, having countryside right next door
also we are close to the main road from Mahon
down a small country road
let's go on... to another bedroom
this has a vaulted ceiling
normally when a house has vaulted ceilings
it means that it has a considerable age
it usually is that vaulted ceilings are post-Arabic
well, the family of the owner have had the house for hundreds of years
and sure enough another vaulted ceiling
which were introduced in the post-Arabic period in Menorca
another bedroom
and this has a dressing area with a bathroom
let's look at the bathroom, this is en-suite, as we call them today
this is the bedroom
plus the other where we found the sitting room
as you can see there is also a wood burning stove in this hallway
and let's carry on and go upstairs
let's go to the first floor
where we find the artist's studio
this could be perfectly converted into two bedrooms, or three
you won't be able to appreciate it
but there is a lovely smell of oil and paint
and it is a special experience to visit a house like this
at least for those who love paintings and art
let's continue downstairs and we will look at the kitchen
and the dining room of the house
let's take a look at this door with stained glass
and this small sitting room
which leads us to the dining room
if you look at the paintwork
these old Menorcan houses were painted in those days
with one part painted in white and the higher part in a darker colour
this was because the old kitchens used coal or wood
and these emitted smoke
and the higher parts of the walls were always discoloured by smoke
and so they pained the room in two colours
and from here we can go out to the terrace
with a small porch and barbecue
as you hear, we are close to the airport
and this could be a drawback because of the noise from the planes
the barbecue
and here what is the access to the house.....my car
and the house
and old original bread oven, well an oven
it could be used for a hundreds of things
an oven in working order and the original door has been preserved
and the paddle to work with it
if you have liked the house and want more information

Until next time
