In the last mod review, I talked about some of the more memorable locations from the Fallout
3 trailers. We reviewed one of those locations, which was the ruined house from the E3 trailer,
but I also mentioned the destroyed bus from the first ever Fallout 3 trailer, and that
bus will be the focus of today mod review. Thanks to mod author bigpete, who seems to
have a knack for re-creating these sorts of areas, we can now finally visit the area that
features in not only the first ever Fallout 3 trailer, but also in the introduction to
the game. As always, bigpete has re-created the area with a high level of accuracy, and
you won't find a thing out of place. From the cars sprawled about the area, to
the street lamps bent into submission, bigpete knows how to re spark the dark atmosphere
from the intro cinematic. As well as nailing the details of the area, the location of the
bus seems to be in order. The bus is located on route from Chevy Chase North to the GNR
Plaza Building, which seems to be the right location if you take into account the brotherhood
activity in the area, and then the brotherhood soldier that features in the trailer. Comparing
the surroundings, you'll note that the Washington monument is seen towering behind the area,
much the same as in the trailer. The second half of the mod focuses on geographical
consistency, as an obvious oversight by the developers is fixed for the good of continuity.
The Dupont Circle area of the game is inconsistent with the map, being off slightly to the left,
and so the whole area is shifted to correctly align it with the map. Furthermore, the GNR
building can be physically seen off to the north of Dupont Circle, however the map shows
it located off to the north-east, and so the map marker is moved to show its correct geographical
location. It may seem like an insignificant fix overall, but it does make a lot more sense
to have everything correctly aligned. I've got no criticisms with the content itself,
however I did experience a bug where objects such as cars and tires were duplicating in
the bus area. I'm not sure if this is a bug that affects everyone, as people didn't seem
to be reporting it, but it is noticeable and annoying.
And that's all of the content that features in this mod, but once again bigpete must be
praised for his work on mods like this, as it adds a sort of continuity to the game.
Thank you all for watching, And I'll see you on the next Fallout Mod Review.
