SMITE Fans need to pick through the latest news with a fine-toothed comb, a non-violet,
kid-safe MMO Adventure game and EverQuest Next Landmark shows off its fancy new timelapse
construction videos. That and how my League of legends account was hacked on today's episode
of the Daily XP.
Fans of the MOBA Smite have a ton of news to digest after a busy day for Hi-Rez at Gamescom
yesterday. First off, they announced a partnership with Tencent Games, which is the leading gaming
portal in China with over 460 million registered users. For reference SMITE just reached 2
million registered accounts. I'm not saying this means that SMITE is going to be flooded
with Chinese players, but.... Next they revealed a preview of the next set of Chinese gods,
which of course were designed in collaboration with Tencent. Revised Gods include Guan Yu,
Sun WuKong, and Zhong Kui. All my best guesses on pronouncing them. SMITE will begin its
chinese closed beta in October.
Hey kids, do you want some candy? It's right over there in the unmarked van. No, the other
one, no, come on, it's, it's right next to that children's MMO. No, no, don't play the
game. STOP! I'm offering you candy! A 20 year veteran with some big MMO names under his
belt like Ultima Online, League of legends and Lord of the rings online has launched
a Kickstarter campaign for a non-violent, kid-safe MMO adventure game. The campaign
has 15 days to go and is well short if its goal so far. The story has something to do
with gnomes being captured by spiders. Maybe if the website and game didn't look like it
was made by 3 year olds it would be doing a bit better. I kinda feel like a jerk.
The EverQuest Next Landmark team has released three new videos showcasing construction in
the game. The videos don't necessarily introduce you to any of the tools or techniques that
are shown in the game, but do show off what you can do with a few hours of time and a
hefty imagination. The best of the videos shows a three and a half hour timelapse where
it looks like just two people transform a rocky mountainous outcropping into a roman
pillared temple overlooking the valley. It's quite impressive. Of course, just having the
tools is not enough, you have to be able to think of your final design, which would pretty
much ruin any success I would have.
And lastly, if you got a surprise e-mail from Riot Games last night, you were not alone,
a single hacker was able to gain access to 120,000 North American League of legends usernames,
e-mail addresses, transaction records, full names, a list of your fears, and your parents
childhood nickname for you. Fortunately the hacker was very vocal about his exploits and
that he didn't want to steal the info, but just show that Riot's account security was
sub-par.
