Welcome to this tutorial about the Advanced Uploading of Files assignment activity.
The Advanced Uploading of Files is one of several Assignment options.
It creates an assignment that enables students to upload single or multiple files of any type, including,
but not limited to, Microsoft Office files, picture files or even a zip file.
Once students submit their assignment files,
you can edit them to provide feedback and return the edited files back to the students as Response files.
In this video, we will show you how to create an Advanced Uploading of Files assignment,
specify assignment settings and save the assignment.
To get started, log in and access your Moodle course.
Before you can edit anything, you must turn editing on, so click the Turn editing on button.
The editing tools are displayed.
To create an Assignment, scroll to the week or topic you want to add the assignment to.
In the “Add an activity” drop-down list, select Assignment - Advanced uploading of files.
The Adding a new Assignment screen is displayed.
A new assignment can be created by specifying settings grouped into three categories:
General, advanced uploading of files, and common module settings.
In the “General” area, in the “Assignment name” text box, type a name for the assignment.
In the “Description” text box, type a description for the assignment including any assignment requirements.
In the “Grade” pop-up list, select the grading scale you will use for this assignment.
Assignments are based on a 100 point scale.
In the “Available from” and “Due dates” drop-down lists, specify an assignment release date and a due date.
If this is an unlimited or a practice assignment, check the Disable checkbox for each option.
In the “Prevent late submissions” drop-down list, specify whether or not
you will accept late assignment submissions.
If you choose ‘Yes,’ once the assignment due date passes,
the assignment will be removed from the Moodle Course Page,
but students can still review the assignment from the Assignments link in the Activities block.
In the “Advanced uploading of files” area, in the “Maximum size” drop-down list,
select the maximum file size for a single file upload.
Remember, the system administrator sets the ‘course upload limit’
which is the absolute largest file size you can upload, 64MB.
In the “Allow deleting” drop-down list, specify whether or not
you will enable students to delete their uploaded files.
In the “Maximum number of uploaded files” drop-down list,
set the maximum number of files students can upload.
By default, it is set to 3.
In the “Allow notes” drop-down list,
specify whether or not students can include comments with their assignment submission.
The “Hide description before available date” option enables you to hide the assignment description
prior to the assignment release date so that students can’t see the descriptions before the start of the assignment.
In the “Email alerts to teachers” drop-down list, specify whether or not
you want to receive an email alert each time a student adds or updates an assignment.
The “Enable Send for marking” option enables students to mark the final draft of an assignment.
Any unmarked assignments are considered drafts.
In the “Grade Category” drop-down list, select the category of grade this assignment will belong to,
In the “Common modules settings” area,
in the “Group mode” drop-down list, specify who will receive the assignment.
No groups represent an individual assignment; all students receive the assignment.
Separate groups represent a group assignment visible only to members of the group,
and Visible groups represent a group assignment visible to all groups.
In the “Visible” drop-down list, specify whether or not you want to show or hide the assignment.
You may want to hide an assignment while you are still working on the details
or until you cover the necessary material in class.
If you will be using this assignment in a grade calculation, you can give it a text or numerical ID number.
If you don’t specify an ID the system will generate a random one.
This way, you can use the grade in a manual calculation if you like.
such as weekly assignments, paper assignments, or group assignments.
By default, “uncategorized” is the only category available,
however, you can create other grade categories using the “Grader report” tools.
Now that you have specified all the settings, click Save and display to save your settings and preview the assignment.
You can see what the assignment will look like to students.
To return to the main course page, click the course link.
A link for the new assignment is displayed in the week or topic you specified on the Moodle Course Page.
That’s all there is to creating an Advanced Uploading of Files assignment activity.
We hope that you will take advantage of this Moodle feature.
