A bungling robber has been jailed for more than four years, after his attempt to rob
a Birmingham bookies didn't go all that well. Footage released by West Midlands Police shows
Leigh Barry threatening staff with a pair of garden shears. He also tried to break the
glass repeatedly with a brick, before trying his luck with a chair.
In the end, he grabbed a handful of pound coins and ran off, though not before dropping
them all over the shop floor.
Passers-by called the police after seeing him run into a nearby shop. Minutes later,
he was arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The 28-year-old was sentenced to four-and-a-half years behind bars at Warwick Crown Court.
He got 18 months for the bookies robbery and an additional three years for his role in
a bank raid in June last year.
