This is a photo of a sunrise in Vargas camp
a day we went to visit my uncle
around 4am we got up and took this picture
this Vargas camp is in the old road.
The story is from my grandfather
taking his produce to Santa Maria
this is the first road there was
from San Isidro to Santa Maria
over the mountain and down again
We still use it in emergencies
when there's a landslide in the interamerican road
that becomes a main route
I don't know how it will come out
because I don't remember much anymore
this is the Quebradas dam
that provides water to all Perez Zeledon
This is the Quebradas mini market
the outside and the inside
This is a current picture of Fudebiol, I think, at least recent
of the year 85 approxiamately, when the foundation started
we used to come to this place, because of the waterfalls
we use to come in from the other side
from a coffee field, we would go around
from school we use to come in groups, on Sundays
from then, until 1990 when I graduated
we always visited, schoolmates,
we were almost risking our lives
we liked to swim up there in the waterfall
further away there's some caves, I don't know if you've been there
we used to visit those caves but with those roads...
there were no trails,
we would grab a liana and jump from side to side
there were some trees, I don't know if they still exist
we would go up there
then, with time, the Foundation came
This is a photo of some toys, see?
these toys are 5 years old
because I brought them from the United States
they are still there, still the same
She was one of the students of the first school
we had in Quebradas
They had to go across the river
to get to school
This is a photo of the sugar mill
here's where they burn, they set the fire
my mom says she used to have nose bleeds
they took her to the sugar mill and put a hot rock on her
and she says she got cured
Here, next to this road, is my house
in this entrance is Joshua's house
I took this photo before they took down these pines
There was a very sad story
well, better a happy one
I didn't take these pictures but
I want to congratulate the artist who took them
this is the school, with the sign
is the school where I work
I've been there for 7 years, let's say working
I show up every day in this school
it's called Quebradas Arriba
this school was built 7 years ago
precisely I was the first teacher and I'm still there
It was a real need.
The parents of these kids, who are in school now
they organized and started the paperwork
to open a school, otherwise they had to walk
how much? three or five kilometers
five kilometers to the Quebradas school
the road, as you have seen, is very lonely
in the afternoon it rains to much, they would get soaked
thank god the school was set up, and I'm here working
This image is from a _ we made from pieces
little by little. Like a jigsaw puzzle.
My dad was one who brought pieces with an oxcart
going up the cattle fields.
