I just want to put out there that fat does not make you fat or overweight. I hate when
people use 'fat' for fat people because I just think that may be where the misconception
that fats make you fat comes from because people thing 'oh, fat, that must make you
fat,' and it is just not true at all. If you eat too many calories that is whats going
to make you gain weight or make you overweight.
One way you're going to gain weight is if you eat too many calories for your maintenance
level. You need about 3,500 calories to gain a pound, so that's a heck of a lot. For example,
if you ate 500 extra calories a day than you would gain about a pound a week. You can take
me for example. I eat so much fat in my diet. I am obsessed with nutbutters and nuts, those
are my favorite sources. I also love avocado. And I eat a lot. I eat definitely a few servings
daily. I eat nutbutter with almost every meal and snack. And I am not overweight and I have
not gained weight.
That has actually helped me maintain my weight because it really helps with satiety. I feel
fuller for longer and therefore I'm not eating excess calories. That is pretty essential.
I think that a lot of people think that all you need is proteins; they try to go on low-carb
diets, they try and go on low-fat diets, when carbs you need the most of (45 to 65%) and
fat is second that you need most of, so they're trying to cut out the two macro nutrients
that you need the most.
The only reason people think that fats make you overweight or they make you gain fat is
because fats are high in calorie per value. Per gram you're going to get about nine calories.
That's opposed to carbohydrates and proteins were you're going to get about four calories
per gram. Fats are essential in your diet. You need about 25 to 35% of your calories
from them. You need fats in your diet and I am a prime example of that. Fats will not
make you overweight, they will not make you gain fat. They are actually delicious and
tasty. I advise all of you right now to go grab a snack, my personal favorite being a
banana with peanut butter on top, and enjoy it.
