>>Michael: Hi! I'm Michael
>>Rebecca: and I'm Rebecca and we're going to teach you how to register.
>>Michael: To register for courses, go to www.uncw.edu.
Click on Current Students. Click on My Seaport on the left hand side
of the page.
>>Rebecca: Log in using your UNCW username and password. Your MySeaPort username was
included with your decision letter from the university. The password is originally set
to your 8 digit birth date or if you have logged in before, it is the password you created.
There are lots of clickable options in MySeaPort, but today we are going to work in SeaNet.
Access SeaNet by clicking on the Captains Wheel icon.
>>Michael: Once on SeaNet, you may have to fill out security questions if this is your
first time accessing the page.
After your security questions, you need to click on Student Services and Financial Aid.
Click Registration.
>>Rebecca: We suggest you start by registering for a linked First Year Seminar and University
Studies Course. Your classmates will be the same in both of these classes and it is a
great way to start your academic experience at UNCW.
Click on Register for First Year Seminar Learning Link. You will be asked to input your Alternate
PIN number. The PIN number is 2018. Write this number down so you can remember it for
your registration.
Click Submit and you will be able to add/drop courses.
>>Michael: On this page are links for each of the linked courses. Linked courses are
a great way of eliminating two requirements for University Studies quickly. You can identify
each course by using the University Studies Check Sheet on the University Studies page.
For this example, we are registering for a linked course with EVS 195 which is Introduction
to Environmental Studies and UNI 101, First Year Seminar. Remember each link will have
UNI 101, but the University Studies courses vary.
>>Rebecca: Once we click on the link, you push continue and you are registered for all
the courses. Hit return to menu to continue with registration.
>>Michael: To return to registration, click on Student Services and Financial Aid, Registration,
then Add/Drop Classes. You will notice that the linked courses will already be on your
schedule.
The first class we will look for is English. Please remember that the English course you
need to take depends on your SAT or ACT score. Students who made higher than a 610 on the
SAT Verbal or higher than a 28 on the ACT, should sign up for English 103. Otherwise,
students should sign up for English 100 or 101. For the example, we will be registering
for English 101.
>>Rebecca: Please note that if you have AP credit for English, the second English listed
on University Studies, English 200 or 201 is not available to incoming students until
their sophomore year. Do not register for English 200 or 201.
Classes are divided by subjects, so you should select English and then View Sections of English
101. This will show you all English 101 courses being offered in the semester and further
information about each course. Lets break down the class information now.
>>Michael: The first column will tell us if the class has available seats. A check box
means a seat is available and checking the box you are selecting that particular section.
A C in that column means the class is unavailable or closed.
The CRN or Course Registration Number is next. Each course has a different CRN number and
these numbers are similar to barcodes to identify the course.
Subject explains the subject of the course and the course number is displayed after that,
in this case 101.
>>Rebecca: Then each class is differentiated by section numbers, which start with 001 for
English 101. Each section has a different professor, time of day or location.
The next column is the name of the class, College Writing and Reading I. Classes are
usually offered on Monday, Wednesday or Friday or Tuesday Thursday. M stands for Monday,
T stands for Tuesday, W stands for Wednesday, R is Thursday and F is Friday.
>>Michael:After the day is the remaining number of seats. The following three columns are
regarding Waitlists. For Early Registration, you should not waitlist to be in a class.
If you are prompted to be on a waitlist, do not register for that course section.
Instructor will tell you who is teaching the course.
>>Rebecca: Date explains what dates the semester begins and what date it ends. Session explains
how long the course is active.
Location is the classroom where the course takes place. To figure out the building codes,
see the link on this page.
Attribute explains how the course counts within University Studies.
>>Michael: Now that we know what the columns stand for, we can sign up for a course. We
selected the first ENG 101 course and then we scrolled down to the bottom of the page
to click Register. Clicking Register will add the course to your schedule. You will
notice a warning screen pop up concerning Tuition and Fees for the courses. Your tuition
will not be due until closer to the semester and you can contact Student Accounts if you
have any questions.
You can check your schedule now and you will notice ENG 101 has been added to your schedule.
Rebecca: To drop a course, you would have to be registered for a course. In this case,
we have registered for English 101 at a wrong time. To drop the course you dont want,
click the drop down menu next to the course and select Drop through SeaNet. Once you click
Submit Changes, that class will be taken out of your schedule.
After dropping a course, you can search for a new course or new time to add to your schedule.
Please remember that once you drop a class you are no longer in that class and your seat
is now available for other students.
To see your schedule of classes at any point, including what days and times you are in class,
click on the Students Schedule tab at the top. You will need to make sure that the calendar
displays the month you are starting class if you are entering in the fall semester,
so you may need to push next week several times or go to a date. By going to the second
week of class, you can see your full schedule.
>>Michael: Now you're ready to register!
