My name is Belle Brockhoff and I’m from Melbourne, Victoria and
my sport is Boarder cross. Boarder cross is basically like BMX
racing, so you have six girls who line up and we all start at the
exact same time and we race down all these obstacles, turns and
jumps and it’s the top three who get down first, are the top
three who get to go into the next round.
I started skiing when I was three years old and I picked up
snowboarding and cross country when I was ten so, at one point
I was doing nine different events, across like skiing, snowboarding,
cross country skiing. But then I started narrowing it down to
PGS and PSL in snowboarding. So I didn’t even do boarder cross
until about two years ago. So it was there when I switched to
boarder cross and started concentrating on that. Each year we’d
come to Jindabyne and we’d do our own on snow camp so right
now I’ll be working on my starts as well as continuing on with
my strength training and endurance training. For endurance
stuff like outside the field we use bikes and go riding and
all that stuff but in the gym we use weights to reduce our
squats and we can bench press, bench pull, chin ups. It’s all
like it’s all well rounded stuff you can’t really specifically
train for boarder cross in the gym. Especially coming into
the Olympic Games we’re very busy so we’re training about six
times a week; twice a day and I mostly do that in Sydney with
the New South Wales Institute of Sport. I do that with my team
mates so we quite highly push each other which is really good.
Last year in December I had my first podium had a third place
in Mont-Blanc and then I had a sixth place finish in Sochi at
the test event. So yeah it’s coming down pretty heavy we
have snowflakes the size of golf balls yeah it’s slowing
the track down. It’s rather a long way to go for one of the most
unexperienced bases on the world cup right now and I’ve only
got two year’s experience but I’m definitely improving everyday
with my physical fitness and endurance so I’m definitely
looking eyeing the podium at the Olympics as well as getting
my rank up to top five in the World Cup circuit.
