City is a special place, and we differentiate ourselves in the world of higher education.
We are a leading global university, committed to academic excellence, focused on business
and the professions, and located in the heart of London.
As a result, our courses are popular, our students are highly employable, they get good
starting salaries, and we have about a quarter of our staff engaged in research that is internationally
excellent or world leading. We're essentially interested in trying to
understand how individuals with autism spectrum disorder learn and remember things most effectively.
Once you understanding what kind of learning and memory difficulties individuals with autism
have, you can then try and target educational programmes towards minimising situations that
they might find difficult, and kind of encouraging and promoting an environment that facilitates
learning. It is an exciting place to be at City because
it is providing a very nurturing environment for promoting research and encouraging a very
high level of research. My name is Roger Jowell, I am a professor
in the school of social sciences, an Di RUN the Centre for Comparative Social Surveys,
which carries out the European Social Survey in 34 countries throughout Europe. What we've
got is a survey that monitors change in peoples attitudes and behaviour patterns which helps
governments and academia in analysing changes in society, and finding out what makes Britain
for instance different from other countries -- unique in some ways, and very similar to
others. So, it is terrific for supporting research, and that's what I do.
My name is Ron Douglas and I teach Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology in the Optometry
part of City University. It is a actually the oldest Optometry department in Europe,
and actually probably the oldest optometry department in the world. And although I haven't
been here since it was conceived, I have been here nearly thirty years. My research broadly
speaking is on the visual system of animals. We've developed a system using stem cells
with which you can reverse retinal degeneration in mammals, perhaps pointing the way to a
possible therapy for vision loss in humans. My name is Sean Canty, I studies Automotive
and Motorsport Engineering at City University London. City University London is at the cutting
edge of automotive research. This research filters down through the lectures that they
give you, and ultimately makes the transition from the learning environment to the working
environment seamless. They also combine their theoretical knowledge very well in a range
of practical design activities that give you really good experience of real life engineering
projects. The location is brilliant, the course content is fantastic, the staffs are great
and I really enjoyed my time there. In just over 100 years, from that single London
square, City has developed into a confident institution, with over 22,000 students, 2500
outstanding staff, and we now are ranked amongst the top 5% of universities in the world.
