Hello. Thanks for taking the time
to view this tutorial.
Today I am going to show you
how to do a subject search in the SOUTHcat Catalog.
Let's get started!
First, let's go to the University Library webpage.
From the main South Alabama website, simply click on "Libraries" at the bottom of the page.
Now, we want the first link, University Library.
Ok, now we are at the University Library webpage.
This will be your portal to all of the books,
articles, other media provided by the University Library.
To find a book, click on the SOUTHcat link.
As you can see,
you have many options
for searching the SOUTHcat Catalog.
Today, we're going to search for "vocational guidance"
under "Subject Heading Browse."
This will allow us to find all of the books that the catalogers have decided fit this description.
Now you can see that we have one hundred seventy nine titles about Vocational Guidance,
two dealing specifically with Alabama,
and even two for Great Britain.
You can come back here later
to explore the various categories.
And here you have all the information you need to find these 179 titles about Vocational Guidance.
To find
a book on the shelf
simply check the location
and the check the call number. You'll need that to find the book on the shelf.
If you're in a hurry and just want to see which books are online
or at the Reference Career Counter,
select Quick Limits
and then make your choice.
And there you have it.
Now you have all the books that can be found
about vocational guidance at the University Reference Career Counter on the
Second Floor North of the University Library.
You now know how to browse Library of Congress subject headings in SOUTHcat.
Feel free to explore all of the resources that your University Library has to offer,
and remember that your
reference librarians are here to help.
