Lauren Mitchell Prime Minister's Olympic Challenge
Transcript
I first got involved in my sport by my parents. They gave me a Gym Bus party when I was 6,
it’s where they have a double decker bus and they rip out all the inside seats and
put in gymnastics equipment, yeah I pretty much got into like that and loved going on
the gymnastics equipment and then I went down to my local club, Claremont PCYC, then they
talent scouted me at WAIS and I’ve kind of been doing it ever since and really enjoyed
it. Three tips for children that I’d like to
encourage them to participate in sport would be one, definitely have fun, if you don’t
enjoy what you’re doing then you’re not going to like it and you’re not going to
do well so definitely have fun and yeah do it as much as you like. Second, is participate
with your friends, if you have people around who are enjoying it as well then it’s that
much more easier to get up and you have like that social aspect as well as the physical
aspect and that kind of ties into number three, the physical aspect. If you have these skills
when you’re younger that you’re more likely to bring it into adulthood and you kind of
have these skills for life and so you feel fitter and stronger for more of your life.
During a competition my favourite, it’s not really a meal it’s more of a snack,
I like glucose jelly beans. They’re kind of like my little energy hit that I have before
I have a floor routine or a beam routine and I just have one or two before I compete and
it kind of pumps me up before my competition. When participating in gymnastics in the Olympic
Challenge obviously have fun but gymnastics can be a really hard sport and it can get
really frustrating at times so it’s important to remember to keep trying and keep persevering
and even though it is hard you will get there in the end and it may take longer than other
people to get it and people might get more frustrated than other people but you’ll
definitely get there in the end so keep persevering cause it will come.
Good luck for the Prime Minister’s Olympic Challenge, keep active and have fun everyone!
