denying women access to abortion and birth control
taxpayers is not
fiscally conservative we've talked over the last year or so about how old bomb a
care will in fact reduce the number of abortions something conservative should
like
we've talked over the last year to you about how increased access to
contraception reduces unwanted pregnancy and as a result reduces the number of
abortions everything progress now has written a great piece which outlines how
all the twelve house republicans voted for the pain capable unborn child
protection act two weeks ago
and it would be an all abortions in the united states
twenty weeks after fertilization
part of this right
is that these individuals also consider themselves fiscally conservative the
problem is that we now have data from the congressional budget office the
nonpartisan c_b_o_
which says
this bill specifically would increase government spending and deficits to
people like us who have been analyzing the effect of lack of access to
contraception birth control and safe safe abortions
uh... we we've put this is just obvious we noticed but a lot of people don't and
maybe some of the data from the c_b_o_ will convince them
the c_b_o_ scored at the house bill
and it said
depending on the number of additional births under h_r_ seventeen ninety seven
medicaid costs could range from seventy five million over the next ten years to
more than four hundred million additional dollars over that same period
the bill would increase the deficit
by seventy five million dollars between twenty fourteen twenty eighteen
and by two hundred twenty five million dollars from twenty fourteen to twenty
twenty three
these koster thanks for the fact that forty percent of all birth cer paid for
by medicaid
an additional births will drive up the costs
on top of this some of those children who are born
will eventually qualify for medicaid and potentially other safety net programs
and making the total
increase on the deficit even more significant the women who seek out
abortions later in the pregnancy are often low-income they need to delay that
the procedure until they can save up enough money
that means that their children are more likely to require government assistance
obvious i mean it's just it's just completely obvious or we know that the
decisions republicans are making
have nothing to do with money they don't everything is fiscal conservatism but
actually all seems to increase the deficit and this is why the u_s_
continues to rank at the bottom of first-world countries for maternal
mortality
despite having these uh... restrictive claiming to restrict abortions in public
programs for the benefit of the people for fiscal conservatism
and the new york times also ran an article discussing the fact that
americans pay more for childbirth and any other country
fiscal conservative i i'd just don't see it was the facts don't bear down more
government spending less government income that's the republican platform s
