Here's a quick tutorial on how to build a report that is correctly sized for an iPad.
I will be using Active Reports in Report Studio.
IBM Cognos Mobile allows users to view their reports on an iPad.
Specifically on an iPad, our best practice is
to create pixel-perfect reports that take up the whole screen.
If we don't size our reports correctly, when we bring them
into IBM Cognos Mobile they will scroll and jump around inadvertently.
This can be confusing and annoying to our users, especially when they are using the touch screen
to tap on targets and the background behind them is moving.
Within IBM Cognos Mobile, we have 1024 by 704 pixels of real estate to work with.
Here's one of our existing samples, the Cincinnati Zoo Report.
Now I will show you how we sized it for the iPad.
Personally, I find it easier to do these steps in this view: View, Page Structure.
The most important thing is to put the entire report in a block.
So here's a block that we've dragged into the report,
and all the rest of the report is within that block.
In the block itself, we set the padding to zero and we set the size to the size
of the IBM Cognos Mobile real estate, which is 704 by 1024, and content is clipped.
It's also a good idea why we're here to set the page body padding to zero as well.
If we run the report now, we can see the results.
And if I zoom out, you can see that the report is constrained to the size of the block of 1024
by 704, and no matter how I interact with it, it's pixel perfect,
staying within the confines of the iPad's real estate.
So, if I close this, I do have one word of caution.
When we clip the block, it also clips our view back in Page Design.
So if I zoom out, you will see that now the report is clipped as well
and I can only see the report elements that are within the size of the block.
So, to fix that, if we go back to the structure view and unclip the block,
you will see that now I have access to all of the elements
because they're no longer clipped anymore.
It's a good idea to leave the block unclipped while we are still offering the report
and only turn on the clipping when we have finished designing our report.
We hope that you found this tutorial useful in how to build a report that is correctly sized
for an iPad using an Active Report in Report Studio.
