Speeding is not only illegal but its incredibly dangerous
people forget that a speed limit is a maximum not a minimum
we're seeing more and more people speed every day, pushing the limits, going 10 k's over
to try and get to their destination faster, but does speeding really get you there any
quicker, and is it
worth the risk?
Well simply the faster you go, the longer it takes to stop
unfortunately it means the impact speed is often higher and therefore the risk of a
serious injury is much higher as well.
Twenty percent of all road
crashes that are fatals in Queensland are as a
result of speeding - its a direct result of speeding
If you're speeding, if you're going faster than the prescribed speed limit, it gives you
less time to think,
it gives you less time to react and it means that the
vehicle has got to do
its got to brake harder, its got to turn quicker
you're putting a lot of pressure and lot of strain on a lot of factors
Whether it be traffic lights, other drivers, a congested road
just trying to speed up a little and save some time on the journey
really doesnt make that much difference
The faster you go, the longer your stopping distance is, travel 60 k's an hour
that's
fifty two metres to come to a stop. Add an extra 10 k's to that and you may not be able to stop in time
So next time you're tempted to pump the accelerator, remember it's better to
get there a few seconds later
than not arrive at all.
