PUSD Board Meeting Highlights for Tuesday, May 11, 2010
Reduction of Classified School Services:
The Board of Education approved the issuance of layoff notices
to classified employees due to lack of funds resulting from
a $23 million budget deficit in 2010-11.
The resolution approved by the Board eliminated 49 full time positions,
and reduced an additional 25 positions.
The resolution satisfied the state requirement that employees be notified 45 days prior
to the effective date of termination or reduction of employment.
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds:
The Board of Education approved recommendations to utilize federal funds to support the retention
of certificated general funded positions to maintain a 22:1 class size for 2009-2010.
The Board also approved priorities for expenditure of the ARRA special education
funds. Those priorities include plans
to support children eligible for special education services
and ensure that schools prevent the over-identification of minority students
placed in special education.
Local Education Agency Plan:
The Board of Education approved the revision of the Local Education Agency
Plan for school years 2009-10 through 2014-15.
The plan analyzes student data for the purposes of determining District goals
and expenditure of funds in a manner that will enhance student achievement.
Each District is required to develop a five year plan
that addresses state and federal requirements mandated by "No Child Left Behind,"
and is continuously reviewed.
