Today we're going to be setting up your student portfolio on the SMUSD Cloud.
Get your log-in information ready, and let's get started.
Using Google Chrome, log-in to the SMUSD Cloud website.
From here, click on Google Docs. Now up at the top of your Drive page, you'll
see this little grid by your name in the top, right corner, that's the Apps.
Click on the Apps and choose the icon for Sites.
From here, click on the red Create button. And now we need to choose a template. Choose
"Browse the Gallery for More." And we're going to select the first one, the
Alvin Dunn Student Portfolio. Click on that and then scroll down and choose
the blue Select button. Now I've got it in my Sites area for templates.
Now I need to name my site. It's the same as your log-in information.
So, first dot last, and then the last four numbers of your I.D. number.
When you have that in correctly, click the red Create button.
This could take a while. The pop-up here says, "Creating your site." Once you see that, just
be patient. Don't click on anything else and wait.
OK! Here's the portfolio. Now we have some editing to do.
Right here where it says, "Student Name," I need to change that to my name.
So I'm going to click on the editing tool, right here. It looks like a pencil.
And I'm going to highlight on top of "Student Name," and just type in my name, first and
last. When I'm done, click the blue Save button
And, I can see, right here, that I typed it correctly, and my changes have been saved.
Now, I'm going to pretend that I'm a 4th grade student and I'm making my portfolio for the
first time. So I need to delete the areas for 3rd grade,
2nd, 1st, kindergarten, and transitional kindergarten. Here's how you do that.
I'm going to start with 3rd grade. I'll click on that,
and now I'm going to go up here to the More button.
And I click that down-facing arrow to the drop-down menu and I'm going to choose "Delete
Page." And it will ask me, "Really delete 3rd grade?"
Yes. Click the red button for Delete. And again, this might take some time, so just
be patient and wait. Now it's showing me this pop-up that says,
"Page deleted." That lets me know that it worked.
If I go back and click on that 3rd grade tab, it will again remind me that I deleted that
page. It will also give me an option to recover
the page. That button right there. So, if I made a mistake and deleted the wrong
page, I can undo that. Now I need to go and do that same thing and
delete the pages for 2nd, 1st, kindergarten, and transitional kindergarten.
Now, I do have one other thing I need you to do. And that's up here with the sharing
options. Right now it is private. Click on the blue
Share button, and we're going to change that.
We need to add your teacher as an editor. So, I'm going to pretend that Mrs. Moise is
my teacher. I'm going to click in the field down here
where it says, "Invite people," and I'm going to start typing in her name.
And I can see it pop up on my list here. So, I'm going to click on Susan Moise. I'm
going to make sure I have "Can edit" selected. Now, I am going to remove the checkmark from
the "Notify people by e-mail" box. That way she won't get 30 e-mails from everyone
in the class letting her know that they have completed this.
Now click the green Share and Save button. Now, I will get this pop-up that says, "Are
you sure we can skip those notifications?" Click the blue OK. Yes, that's fine.
And it says, "Sharing." And once Mrs. Moise's name pops up, there
it is. I know that she's been added. So, I can click back on my name over here
on the left-hand pane, get back to my site. And I can see that I have done my work.
Good luck everybody!
