When we're depressed, we often have an overactive mind,
and an underactive body: we find it very hard to take action.
Based on my own personal experience,
but also interviewing over 4,000 people
that have come back from depression and bipolar, I want to share three things
that can start us on that path to recovery. The first thing
is to see your general practitioner or primary physician.
If you don't have one, or you're not comfortable talking with the one that
you have,
I'd like to suggest that you look at my
other video about how to find a mental health savvy
GP. The second thing
is to share what's happening with you with a loved one:
explain how you're feeling,
explain the symptoms and maybe ask them for help; help to find a general
practitioner,
or to join you on a walk. Which leads me to my third
suggestion and, when we're depressed, we don't feel like moving. But I can tell you,
without a shadow of a doubt, that it's one of the most important things we can do
to gradually build up to 30 minutes brisk walk every day.
So, go against that response of doing nothing
and please take these three actions.
