Greetings fellow nerds.
It’s been an awesome four years and I’d like to personally thank each and everyone of you for your support.
(thank you, thank you, thank you...)
As many of you know from my twitter post nurdrage will be coming to an end this year.
The primary reason being is i’ll be finishing my work at this lab and will be seeking employment elsewhere.
It was by permission from this lab that i was able to do nurdrage.
I personally want to continue but without a laboratory there is nothing i can do.
I’m not sure if my new place of employment will allow me to make videos but i wouldn’t count on it.
Starting my own lab isn’t viable because raising the necessary quarter million just isn’t possible in this economy.
Now i’m still at the current lab for several more months so there will be more videos so don’t you worry.
But i’m announcing all of this now because there is one experiment i want to do that requires all of your help.
Because it’s your experiment.
Let me explain.
Most of you want to do experiments but cannot do the more interesting ones because you don’t have the chemicals,
the training, or the proper lab to safely handle those chemicals.
I do.
So how about we do the next best thing and we do an experiment together.
You decide explicitly what will be done and i’ll do it and film it.
Then you decide what will be done next and i do that.
And we go back and forth over several, or even a dozen videos or so, and together we explore anything we want.
You in the safety and comfort of your home,
and me in the lab applying my professional training to the make sure the experiment goes smoothly.
For now I’ll decide the experiment first but after this one i’ll let you decide.
So let me start you off with something simple.
Here i have a sample of Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide. A ceramic superconductor.
Now i’m putting on top a small magnet. Nothing happens at room temperature since it’s just a ceramic.
But now i’m going to pour on top liquid nitrogen. As it cools it becomes superconductive and totally diamagnetic.
it now repells the magnet and levitates it.
So now your turn, tell me what to do next.
In the comments upvote the ideas you want me to attempt and downvote the ones you don’t want me to try.
If you don’t see an idea you like then add it.
I look forward to reading your suggestions.
