In 1980, as I recall, the initial thought of
doing something for the poor came to mind.
The need to do something was the inspiration which
came from my father and grandfather who used to help the poor.
My father used to treat the poor with his homeopathy medicine
that was free of cost.
As a little child, seeing the good deeds of my family members
must have become the fruit of encouragement for me to help those
poor who were unable to share their problems,
to help the poor old people who were unable to beg,
and to stand by those who even can't afford one square meal.
These poor people didn't have any spare money to
avail of quality treatment.
Their grown-up children were unable to provide support to their parents.
When I was in College, the poor people,
especially the poor who were suffering from Tuberculosis,
along with the general patients, used to ask for our help
and we helped them by taking them to the hospital in Kolkata.
While doing such kind of voluntary activities, we thought,
"Why don't we do something concrete to help these poor people?".
I got a job, but I didn't do it
because I felt that if I get involved in a monotonous job
then who will look after the poor?
Who will listen to their problems?
That's why we started doing these activities as our prime job
in the year 1980 and we are still doing it.
From very young age, mother & father, along with family relatives,
constantly encouraged me to do something for the people.
Study well, stay with these people and feel their pain.
The philanthropic activities of my family led me into it.
We are still doing it now and will continue for God knows how long.
But no human can't do this job single-handed
and needs others to help them out in their endeavour.
To work for the people
you need support from many others in various ways.
That is the prayer in my heart.
Please come and help us to realize the vision of our heart
and we will strive to achieve it.
After coming here, my first proud achievement,
which I received was from my inner self through mental satisfaction,
that I was doing something for the people
and simply being among them.
For the benefit of each one of us,
each one of us should feel the suffering of fellow human beings.
I feel their pain.
That's why I want to be at their side
and to do my duty for them.
And my overall sense of achievement is
that I am now able to stand beside my poor brothers and sisters
and can at least do something fruitful for them.
While working for the common people from the year 1980
time just flew by in a blink of an eye
and I just can't believe it.
The time which I spent with the people from 1980 to 2014
I consider to be my greatest achievement.
What I feel most strongly is that
the next generation needs to feel the same motivation which we felt long ago.
To be concerned, not with money,
but with spreading love and affection for the people,
with sacrifice & time and to watch over everybody.
And SHIS can stand out among the crowd with its head high.
I wish that in the near future today's worker of SHIS
will able to hold it strongly
and it is the only thing I ask of them -
to be an extended hand of us.
It is only if we all work together that support
will come automatically. Without proper support,
blessings, love and sympathy SHIS would not be what it is today.
Support, love and sympathy can only help
this organisation and keep it in good health,
and day after day it will make it strong and vibrant.
